Omulu, also known as Obaluaiê, is a revered deity in Afro-Brazilian traditions, often associated with healing, disease, and death. Traditionally depicted with his body covered in straw to conceal the scars that mark his skin, Omulu’s image reflects both his suffering and his powerful role as a healer.

In this artwork, I've chosen to highlight the human aspects of Omulu by unveiling his scars and showing him in a moment of deep prayer, kneeling before a single white candle.

Omulu’s story is one of resilience, transformation, and the profound connection between pain and compassion. Through this depiction, I invite you to reflect on the duality of suffering and healing, and the ways in which our own scars shape our journey. Atotô Obaluaiê!
